Starting in high school, I developed a love for medicine. Most 16-year-old girls would rather have been at the mall after school, while I would rather be studying anatomy and physiology in the biology lab. Between my love for biology and my love for people, I knew that medicine was the right path for me. I had the opportunity to shadow and spend some time with both MDs and PAs in my home state of Maine. The PA profession became appealing to me because I always felt very strongly that the best patient care comes from a team approach rather than a single opinion. It would soon become my passion to help people stay healthy and feel great!
After I completed my Pre-med undergraduate training at the University of Miami in 1998, I was accepted to the USC Keck School of Medicine for my PA training. That is where I began to develop my love for dermatology. I was able to focus some of my time during my PA training studying plastic surgery and minor cosmetic procedures. It is so much fun to make someone look and feel great, inside and out!
I have been a Dermatology Physician Assistant in Santa Monica since 2003, where I have trained extensively with the Physicians at Santa Monica Dermatology Medical Group. I have been extremely fortunate to have spent the past 10 years with one of the largest dermatology practices in all of Los Angeles, where I have had the opportunity to build my knowledge base and become a respected member of the local medical community. I am a Fellow member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and as an experienced dermatology PA, I was eligible to complete an advanced training course through UT-Southwestern, which awarded me the title of SDPA Diplomate. I take great pride in keeping up with the latest cutting edge trends in the practice of Dermatology and skin care. It is important for me to understand all of the complexities of treating skin conditions, whether it is general dermatology skin disease or cosmetic procedures. In 2011, I was invited to become a clinical trainer for Medicis, the company that manufactures Restylane and Dysport . In 2012, I was honored to be invited to become a clinical trainer for Allergan, the company that manufactures Botox, Juvederm and Latisse.
I am frequently asked why I chose the field of Dermatology and that is a difficult question to answer. The saying “beauty is only skin deep” is probably the main reason. Let’s face it, even general dermatology is somewhat cosmetic in nature. Nobody likes to have visible acne, warts or a disfiguring rash for the whole world to see. My goal is to help every patient feel confident and good about themself. If my ability to improve the health and appearance of a person’s skin makes them feel better about themselves, than I have had a successful day! My goal is to provide a personal service to all of my patients. I truly enjoy getting to know each of my patients and their families, and especially hearing about their travels. Every patient and situation is unique and I value each patient’s individual needs. I treat my patients the way I would like for my health care providers to treat me. I will spend as much time as is necessary to evaluate each patient and answer questions they may have. I am honored to have such a diverse patient following, treating people of all ages, ethnicities, nationalities, and even some celebrities. No matter what the situation may be, my goal is to have every patient leave the office feeling confident, with a little spring in their step!
In 2012, I developed a new all natural skin care product line that utilizes a powerful antioxidant from the blueberry plant. I reseached for many years to find the perfect balance of high performance ingredients that were natural and effective. I am so proud of the Airelle skin care line. It has even been used on TV shows such as “Dancing with the Stars”, “American Idol”, “The Voice” and many more! Check out the results!
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking in Malibu and the Santa Monica mountains with my husband and our dogs. Anyone who knows me knows that I love to travel, whether it is to Maine to visit my family or wherever the wind takes me…
